NPGS: Popup Help for Windows 7/8/10
UPDATE: The information below only applies to older releases of NPGS v9. Download the latest free update for NPGS v9.2 to eliminate this issue. (The very thorough and extremely useful popup help is still in the latest release, but it has been improved and redesigned to no longer use the Microsoft help format.)
NPGS has extensive popup help built into the main user interface which is based on the Microsoft WinHlp32.exe program. This is especially useful for new users where answers to most new user questions are two clicks away. For example, in the NPGS Run File Editor, detailed descriptive information is provided for each data entry field. The nuisance is that for Windows 7 and up, Microsoft does not automatically include the WinHlp32.exe program with the operating system. Instead, the user must download and install a Windows update to enable this feature.
{No longer necessary in the latest release of NPGS v9.1 or higher.} |
At this time, Microsoft has not released an official update to add the WinHlp
functionality to Windows 10. Fortunately, due to the widespread usefulness
of this feature, independent sites have made updates available.
{No longer necessary in the latest release of NPGS v9.1 or higher.} Windows 10 (link to a third party web site to download the code for Win10) The "Solution #2" on the web site above has been used to successfully add the WinHlp feature to 64 bit Windows 10. |
For either link above, this is a one-time procedure and once completed, the NPGS popup help will be available for all users of the machine.
